Express rifles

Double express rifles

Three side-by-side double rifles, a boxlock, a hammer gun and a sidelock, built to order in Eibar from 8×57 JRS for driven boar to .600 Nitro Express for elephant.

Calibers

Every model is built to order in five calibers. Tell us the game and the country and we will advise.

8×57 JRS
Rimmed 8 mm Mauser, the classic European driven-game round.
9.3×74R
Rimmed, flat-shooting and versatile: from boar and red deer to plains game.
.470 Nitro Express
The standard dangerous-game cartridge for a double rifle.
.500 Nitro Express
More bullet weight for elephant and buffalo.
.600 Nitro Express
The heaviest of the classic Nitro Express rounds.

Why a double rifle

Two barrels, two locks, two triggers: a double rifle gives an immediate second shot without moving the hand from the grip, and if one lock ever fails the other still fires. That is why it remains the rifle of choice for dangerous game and for fast, close shots at driven boar.

The difficult part is regulation: making two barrels shoot to the same point. Each Ugartechea rifle is regulated and test-fired in Eibar before it goes to the Eibar Proof House.

Questions

Which calibers are available?

All three models are built in 8×57 JRS and 9.3×74R, and in the big-bore .470, .500 and .600 Nitro Express. Big-bore rifles are built heavier to handle the recoil. Other calibers can be discussed with your order.

Which ammunition is the rifle regulated for?

A double rifle is regulated for one load. Tell us the brand and bullet weight you will hunt with; we regulate for it at 50 m (55 yd) unless you ask for another distance.

What is the difference between the three models?

The Model 3 is a boxlock: simple, strong and the most affordable. The Model C is a hammer sidelock, preferred by many professional hunters. The Model V is a hammerless sidelock with full-coverage engraving and exhibition walnut.

Are the barrels regulated?

Yes. Every rifle is test-fired and regulated in Eibar so both barrels shoot to the same point at 50 m, then proofed at the Eibar Proof House.

Can you supply in volume?

Yes. We supply importers, dealers and outfitters. Use the quote form or email us with model, caliber and quantity.
